Well well..how exciting..my first post on Spawn.com

This is Jerry the previous owner of SOTA Toys..Ive never posted here because I think its rude for a toy company to post on another toy companies forumt..but now that Im no longer the owner of SOTA ( or heck even in the toy biz at all ) I thought I would drop in for a moment.

Few comments

Rheen.. very perceptive..and correct..everything got a little backed up while getting paperwork done...but SOTA is fine..financially stable and a full line of product going forward.

Desk Job..you love to play the 'never pays his sculptors' card a lot..but its simply not true..Ive only ever paid ONE sculptor late since the time I started SOTA..and he is a friend who agreed to it as he knew cash was a little tight during that period..and he has since been paid. I would love for you to throw out some names or facts and I'll easily be able to refute them.

Deansta... dont lose faith buddy ( oh and that Ryu statue is going to worth bank because the production version has changed a bunch )

Finally..as anyone who has read what I post or heard what I say I am a huge McFarlane fan..always have been and always will be...I dont have to agree with everything the company does to be a fan.

The molds from SF rounds 1-4 were not 'lost' in a move to a different facility..they were basically stolen. Thats all I can say because SOTA/Capcom is still dealing with this issue.. stuff like that is always a danger dealing wiith China as they dont really have a legal system that you can go through...its sort of the 'wild west' out there legally.

So to answer your question..those molds are not available.

As for bootlegs... I dont know that you can tell from pics..I think its a quality issue that would be difficult to tell until you have them in your hands. The easiest way to make sure you get legit figures is to buy from a legit source like Corner Store Comics...but I get the feeling you might not be in the USA which makes that a bit cost prohibitive.

Its weird being on the Spawn board..lol..Hope Jon doesnt mind. Maybe I should point out that I REALLY want that Master Of Puppets 3-D Cover...

Unfortunately I cant comment on stuff like that. Thats now SOTA business and its up to them to decide what information they want divulged and when.

And truthfully...Im still friends with everyone there but I dont really know all their plans and I wouldnt want to say anything that ended up being wrong.

Even though this was announced today I havent been at SOTA since early August...lots could have changed that Im not aware of.

Just curious.....

I cant really answer that in detail without infringing on SOTAs confidential inner workings other than to be very vague and say there were many factors including, but not limited to...

Factories that lie and steal
Employees that lie and steal
Retailers/distributors that commit to orders then cancel or drastically reduce them
Retailers/distributors going bankrupt
Products where we never could get enough orders to justify production
Sacrificing higher profits for higher quality
Entering the toy biz right as it started its decline
Growing too fast

And perhaps most importantly...someone (me) running a toy company that only had experience running a special effects company...a very different industry.

You might think to yourself..okay well all the other companies must be facing a lot of the same problems so why should Jerry get to use them as an excuse when the other companies get their toys out semi-on time...right ?

Perhaps they're just smarter than me...perhaps they are better financed...perhaps they were already established in the marketplace..I dunno

But I will say I am very proud of starting a toy company from scratch with very little cash and turning it into a 'player'. I remember when people started to talk about the 'top companies' and we were always being listed in the top 5...blew my mind.

Anyway.. I feel SOTA has a bright future ahead of itself and one day when its a much larger company I can look back and say that I did the hard part by getting it off the ground :-D
